- 2days of play, 7 and 8 November
- 5kinds of teams invited
- 4categories: Under-15 and Open, for girls and boys
- 1pathway to the national team
The CEO of Khokho Uganda and the Technical Director stand shoulder to shoulder beside the Khokho Uganda Cup trophy, and the message is clear: every club, every school, every team is invited. It is more than a photo. It is a declaration that Khokho has come home to stay.
Where and when
The inaugural Khokho Uganda Cup takes place on 7 and 8 November 2026 at Kitebi Secondary School Playground, Lubaga, Kampala, which the association calls the Home of Khokho in Uganda. For two days teams from across the country will run, chase, dive and celebrate the game.
Why this Cup, and why now
- To build our identity. Since Khokho was introduced in Uganda it has grown from community dust grounds to schools and universities. The Cup is a national flag: a tournament that belongs to every Ugandan.
- To select the best. The Cup is the official pathway to the national team. Coaches will watch every match to identify talent for the Uganda Khokho Cranes.
- To prepare for the world. The association says the Khokho World Cup is coming in 2026/27 and Uganda must be ready to compete with nations such as India, England and South Africa. The Uganda Cup is the final national test before that stage, and the pace, the pole dives and the teamwork shown on 7 and 8 November will count.
The history and the future
What began as a demonstration in a few schools is now a sport with certified Level 1 coaches across the country. The Khokho Uganda Cup is the first trophy that will carry the names of its champions, engraved for history.
Ten years from now, we will look back at the team that wins this first Cup as the pioneers who built Khokho in Uganda. No future without a foundation: this Cup is our foundation.
Youth mobilisation: the heart of Khokho
Look at the Uganda flag draped on the table, with the Crested Crane. Khokho is a youth sport. It is fast, it needs no expensive equipment, boys and girls both play it, and it builds speed, brain and discipline.
The association is mobilising primary schools, secondary schools, universities, community clubs and district teams. You do not need to be a champion to enter. You need to be willing to learn and to run. The Federation's technical team has already moved across Kampala, Wakiso, Gulu, Mbale and Mbarara running introductory sessions, and the Cup is the gathering of all that work.
Many of the technical officials come from the coaching courses. At Makerere University, 28 more coaches were certified on 18 and 19 October, and their next stop is Kitebi.
Categories
The Cup has Under-15 and Open categories for boys and men and for girls and women. Teams and clubs from all regions are invited, and regional heads are asked to send at least two teams for each gender.
Registration is open, and everyone is invited
The CEO and the Technical Director agreed on one principle: this Cup is inclusive.
- If you are a school, bring your students. This is where they get seen by national selectors.
- If you are a community club, come and test your strength against schools and universities.
- If you are a new team that learned Khokho only last month, you are most welcome. Technical officials will be there to guide you on the rules.
Why invite everyone? Because Khokho belongs to everyone. The aim is a national sport where a child from Kitebi can chase a student from Makerere University on the same ground.
How to register
Registration is ongoing. Contact the Khokho Uganda Secretariat or your District Coordinator. Teams are advised to register early to receive the official Rules Book, fixture guidance and coaching support before the tournament. Slots are limited, but opportunity is unlimited.
