Why Makerere

  • Certify Level 1 coaches who can grow Kho Kho in universities, schools and communities.
  • Give Makerere students and sports tutors the skills to start the game on campus.
  • Prepare technical people for the Khokho Uganda Cup at Kitebi Secondary School on 7 and 8 November 2026.

Day one: laws, ethics and the court

The first day covered the history and laws of Kho Kho under the IKF rules, the role of a coach, and safety and ethics. Then the group went onto the field to learn how to measure and mark a 22 m by 16 m court (26 m by 20 m with the lobby) with a measuring wheel, tape, cones and lime. Two courts were marked on the main ground.

Day two: coaching skills and assessment

Participants practised sitting in a zigzag row, giving Kho (simple, late and judgment), the chain, the pole dive and dodging. They formed lanes to learn covering positions, and each coach taught a group. The assessment had two parts: a 10-minute practical teaching session per coach and a written test on the rules.
