Uganda took part in the first ever Kho Kho World Cup, held in New Delhi, India, in January 2025. The tournament attracted more than 20 countries from across the continents, and Uganda sent a women's national team. The girls finished third in the women's category and won a bronze medal for the country.

The team was led by Nsubuga Mustapha, and its head coach was Ephraim Makubuya. Both were among the five Ugandans who trained in New Delhi in 2020, so the World Cup brought the story full circle: the people who learned the sport in India five years earlier returned to the same city with a national team.

On the court

The strategic plan records two moments from the tournament: the players celebrating a win against England, and Ojil Grace defending against Nepal in the semi-final.

Ojil Grace is today the Athletes' Representative on the Kho Kho Uganda executive committee, so the people who play the game have a seat at the table where decisions are made.

Before the flight

The team travelled to New Delhi for the tournament, which ran from 13 to 19 January 2025. The High Commission of India flagged off the Kho Kho Sport Federation of Uganda team before it left. Read about the flag-off.

The strategic plan builds on this result. It commits to national teams for several age groups, a qualified technical team and support staff, better welfare for players, and regular entry into regional and international competitions and friendlies. The full story of how the sport reached Uganda is in the genesis of Kho Kho in Uganda.
