Nakapiripiriti District Local Government, led by the district Sports Office, worked with Kho Kho Uganda to run a coaching course at Nakapiripiriti Primary School on 12 August 2026. Training Instructor Nsubuga Enock represented Kho Kho Uganda and was received by Mr. Otim Tonny, one of the best-known Kho Kho supporters in Karamoja.

Teachers mark out a Kho Kho court in Nakapiripiriti

Eleven games teachers from secondary and primary schools took part. The day began with theory at 10 am. After a break of banana, milk and chapati, the practical session started at 12:15 pm: the teachers learned the dimensions of the court, marked it out and practised how to give Kho.

What the teachers took away

  • The history of Kho Kho, team structure and composition, the rules, court dimensions and marking, how to give Kho, fouls and penalties, and game situations.
  • An appreciation of the game as a way to improve fitness and health.
  • Knowledge for the district technical team.
  • Respect for how cheap the game is to run, which the schools welcomed.

The district Sports Office asked the teachers to start training their pupils as soon as possible, because a district competition is planned for next term, during the two UNEB days. The district has promised Kho Kho competitions in third term of 2026.
