Clubs are the foundation of a sport that lasts, so from February to June 2026 Kho Kho Uganda ran an intensive club formation campaign. The aim was community-owned and community-managed clubs that keep going after the outreach team has left.

A club formation meeting with Kho Kho coaches

How a club is formed

  1. Community sensitisation: residents learn about the sport and its benefits.
  2. Technical orientation: interested people get introductory training.
  3. Leadership development: an interim management committee is set up.
  4. Governance structuring: a constitution and governance systems are drawn up.
  5. Membership registration: the club keeps a membership database and records.
  6. Recognition and compliance: clubs are guided on the requirements of the National Sports Act, 2023.
  7. Ongoing mentorship: technical and administrative support continues after set-up.

What the clubs are for

The clubs now serve as community participation centres, training hubs, talent identification centres, leadership platforms and competition units. They also build the national footprint Kho Kho Uganda needs for federation recognition and registration.

The campaign included club formation meetings with coaches from Mukono, Kampala and Kayunga districts. If your school or community wants to start a club, register here.
